Q: What are the age/grade requirements for my son to join Cub Scouts?
A: Cub Scouts can be in the 1st through 5th grade, or 6 through 10 years of age. They will be placed in the applicable Cub Scout rank and be able to progress through their ranks as any other Cub Scout would.

Q: My son has a medically diagnosed learning disability. Can he still join Cub Scouts?
A: Yes! The Cub Scouts can work with ALL boys, regardless of medical history or academic deficiencies. Scouts are still able to progress through ranks and if necessary, are given added attention to deal with certain deficiencies.

Q: How much does it cost for my son to join Cub Scouts and what do I need to do?
A: To apply for Cub Scouting, just contact the Cubmaster that you are interested in joining. At one of the weekly den meetings, you will be asked to fill out a Youth Application for submission to the Council Office. There is a one-time charge of $20 for new applicants.
Parents are also charged for supplying the boy's uniform shirt. This is usually around $15-$25. Aside from these costs, there are other costs associated with certain camping trips, outings, and other important items.

Q: How involved does my son have to be in Cub Scouts to be successful?
A: Believe it or not, most achievements and electives that are required for progression in ranks are already being conducted by boys, either at home, school, or some kind of recreational activity. Cub Scouts are encouraged to make the weekly meetings, as well as any other special event that occurs, in order to take full advantage of the Scouting experience.
One of the most important aspects of Cub Scouting is parental involvement. Parents are equally encouraged to support their Scout and assist them in the growing process by ensuring they make it to their weekly meetings and tracking their progress in their handbooks. In most Cub Scout ranks (Tiger, Wolf, and Bear), the parents can sign off on achievements/electives to receive credit towards a rank badge.

Q: Where and how often to the Cub Scouts meet?
A: The Cub Scouts meet every Tuesday evening at 6:00pm at the Marathon Central School cafeteria for their den meetings. The Pack Meeting, which is a consolidated meeting of all the dens, is held at the First Presbyterian Church on the last Thursday of each month. Parents are always invited to attend any meeting and are encouraged to do so.
